How to Complete a Fuel Treatment

How to Complete a Fuel Treatment thumbnail
Fuel treatment should be added along with gasoline to a fuel tank.

Water can accumulate in your fuel tank through the form of condensation, and treating the fuel in your vehicle helps prolong the life of your fuel pump and fuel lines. Fuel treatment also cleans your fuel injectors and pumps, increasing performance in your vehicle. If your fuel injectors haven't been cleaned in a long time, carbon buildup can occur, clogging the fuel injectors. Once this happens, the vehicle doesn't receive the correct amount of fuel needed for optimum performance.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a fuel treatment product from your local auto parts store.

    • 2

Go to a gas station and pull into one of the gas pump lanes. Open your gas tank cap on your gas tank. Twist the gas cap counter-clockwise to remove the cap from the gas tank.

    • 3

Add the fuel treatment product to a nearly empty gas tank. Twist off the cap to the fuel treatment product and pour the contents into your gas tank.

    • 4

Fill your gas tank full of gasoline. Completely fill your gas tank to ensure the fuel treatment product mixes to the correct ratio. You should use 32 ounces of fuel treatment for every 250 gallons of gas used. Be sure to use the correct amount of treatment for your tank size.

    • 5

Return the gas cap to your fuel tank. Twist the gas cap clockwise until it clicks, indicating the gas cap is secure.
