Most new electronic devices occasionally need a firmware update. The firmware tells the device how to run properly. If you are using the Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player, it is important to use up-to-date firmware because some new Blu-ray disks contain information older firmware won't recognize. You can update the firmware on the Samsung Blu-ray player without the aid of a technician or service representative.

Launch the Web browser on your computer and navigate to Samsung.com. Once there, click the "Support" button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Click the "TV and Video" option, then select "Blu-ray" player and choose the BD-P1500 and the model of player you need an upgrade for. Click the "Downloads" option, then select "Firmware."

Click the "Upgrade File (USB Type)." The file downloads to your computer in the Zip format.

Right-click the downloaded file and select the option to unzip the file. This opens the Zip software on your computer. Select an extraction location for the files and click "Unzip" (or "Extract," depending on the software your computer is using). Open the extracted Zip window to expose several different program files. Leave this window open for now.

Connect the USB flash drive to a USB port on your computer. Click the "Start" button on your desktop, followed by either "Computer" or "My Computer." Once the window opens, double-click the removable device icon.

Click-and-drag the files from the extracted folder into the removable device window. Close out the removable device window, right-click its icon and select "Eject."

Remove the USB flash drive from the computer and plug it into the USB port on the back of the Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player. Power on the Samsung BD-P1500 and turn on the television so that you can view the contents of the player. The blu-ray player automatically detects the connected USB flash drive and begins to update its firmware. Remove the USB flash drive once the firmware has finished updating.
