If you're a Cox Cable customer, you'll receive a Cox Cable box receiver that transfers the digital signal from the component video cable or HDMI cable into a digital image on your television set. Since your Vizio high-definition television is capable of accepting HDMI or component video inputs, you can choose between having the combination of component video and audio cables or just the HDMI cable, which can play audio and video.

Step 1

Locate the "HDMI In" and component input ports on the back or side of your Vizio television set. For the Cox Cable box, locate the "HDMI Out" and component output ports.

Step 2

Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI In" port on your Vizio television set and the other end of the cable into the back HDMI output ports of the Cox Cable box. If you connect using the HDMI cable, you don't need to connect the component or audio cables because HDMI transfers image and sound.

Step 3

Plug one end the component video cables into the "Y," "Pb-Pr" and "HD1" ports on your Vizio television and the other end into the corresponding ports on the Cox Cable box, if you choose a component connection. The colors are universally listed as red, blue and green respectively.

Step 4

Plug one end of the audio cables into the "AUDIO Out" ports on the Cox Cable box and the other end to the "AUDIO In" ports on your Vizio HDTV to complete the component connection. The color for the right audio input is red, while the color for the left audio input is white. Don't plug the yellow cable in anywhere.
