How to Install a Hood Ornament on a Mercury Grand Marquis

Hood ornaments can be found on classic cars like the Mercury Grand Marquis.

You will find hood ornaments on many antique and vintage cars. The Mercury Grand Marquis is a classic car to install a hood ornament on. Most Mercury Grand Marquis models do not have a place for a hood ornament, so one will need to be created. The installation of a hood ornament on a Grand Marquis is straight-forward and can be performed by the owner.

Things You'll Need

• Drill
• Drill bits
• 3/8-inch ratchet and sockets
• Hood ornament
• Tape measure
• Tape
• Marker

Instructions

1. Place a piece of tape in the future location of the hood ornament.

2. Use a tape measure to be sure that the tape is centered on the hood. Mark the location with a marker.

3. Use a tape measure to get the measurement of the area between the two mounting holes on the hood ornament. Take the measurement between the two mounting holes and divide it by two to get the center measurement of the hood ornament.

4. Mark the measurements from the hood ornament onto the tape located on the hood. Be sure to double check your measurements because this will be where you will drill into the hood of the car.

5. Drill the holes into the hood of the car. Start with a smaller drill bit and progressively move to a larger one until you get a size that is slightly larger than the bolts that secure the hood ornament.

6. Remove the tape from the hood.

7. Install the ornament to the hood using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Tighten the bolts of the ornament until it feels secured to the hood.

Tips & Warnings

• Double check all your measurements before using the drill. Once the holes are in your hood, they are permanent.
