How to Word Funny Wedding Announcements

How to Word Funny Wedding Announcements thumbnail
Use the wedding announcement to tell friends that you've taken the plunge.

After the big day, many couples declare their newlywed status with a newspaper announcement or with cards sent to friends and family who were not at the wedding. While wedding announcements are a practical formality, they don't have to be boring. Humorous announcements are a way to show how perfectly matched the couple is. Couples who want to express their personal style can use funny wording to spice up their wedding announcements.

Instructions

  1. Funny Wedding Announcement Card

    • 1

List the important information you want to convey in your announcement. Include the date and location of the wedding and the city in which the newlyweds reside. Some announcements include parents' names.

    • 2

Brainstorm humorous presentations, for instance limericks, drawings or silly photographs, and develop wording to match. For example, sketch you and your spouse as superheroes protecting the city you live in with your dog as a sidekick. Or draw a comic strip depicting a summary of your wedding, or design a comic book cover-style card. Use wording such as: "Mr. and Mrs. Super Hanson! Protecting Springfield from evil since November 23, 2010" or "He was a mild-mannered professional, she was a wild-mannered zookeeper... An unlikely duo, brought together by their love of video games and brownies."

    • 3

Write a few lighthearted lines in keeping with the photograph or drawing. Free Wedding Invitations suggests, "He asked and she said yes ... or was it the other way around? However it happened, Joe Hanson and Jane Edmund have married."

      LovePoetry.net suggests the little poem:

"Two lonely aerials meet on a roof and start to date

Very soon they fall in love so it must have been fate

They name the day as their love has proved resilient

The ceremony was rubbish but the reception was brilliant."

    Wedding Announcement in the Paper

    • 4

Make a list of the essential information you wish to convey in the announcement. Keep it very brief, because newspapers charge per word and have limited space.

    • 5

Make a quick joke, since you don't have the whole card to stylize. Poke fun at yourselves in a good-natured way. For instance, "Joe Hanson and Jane Edmund tied the knot on November 23, 2010...FINALLY!" or "The parents of Jane Edmund gave her away in marriage to Joe Hanson (reluctantly) on November 23, 2010." Use wording related to hobbies such as, "Joe Hanson and Jane Edmund tore themselves away from their Xbox for a few hours on November 23rd to get married," or simply use slang expressions like "took the plunge," "got hitched" or "made it legal" to make your recipients smile.

Give the newspaper a photo to run next to the announcement. Send in a silly shot that complements the wording. For instance, send in a photo of you decked out in cowboy outfits to announce you "got hitched" or dressed as sailors and examining a coil of rope for "tied the knot." Take your picture next to a toilet and plunger for "taking the plunge."
