Most Mac computer systems have a built in DVI connection port.

The Mac PowerBook G4 is a laptop computer system that came before the newer line of MacBooks. These PowerBooks come with a built in DVI connection port. This port allows you to send the video information of the computer to an outside monitor (both Windows and Mac based). If the video is not reaching the monitor, troubleshoot the situation to determine what is causing the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the desktop, then choose "Search for Updates." The computer scans for any updates available, including firmware for the DVI connection port and video chip (the DVI port is part of the video card on the computer). If updates are available, the information installs automatically.

    • 2

Restart the computer. The update does not take affect unless you restart the computer. Additionally, shutting down the computer, then powering it back up corrects most minor issues, including issues with hardware malfunctioning upon startup (occasionally hardware does not boot properly, so restarting the computer corrects the problem).

    • 3

Spray compressed air into the DVI connection port on the video card. If the port is dirty or clogged with dust, it is not going to function correctly as the video signal fails to reach the computer.

    • 4

Click the icon in the upper right corner of the PowerBook screen, then choose "Mirroring." This turns on the video signal in the DVI port, allowing the video signal to pass through the DVI connection port. If you don't, your monitor may not receive the video signal from the computer.
