How to Remove a Silverado Pillar

by Jenny Carver

The pillars in a Chevrolet Silverado are made of hard plastic and are located on each side of the windshield on the inside of the cab, in between the windshield and front doors, and reach from the ceiling to the dashboard. Factory pillars are plain, but several aftermarket pillars for the Silverado have built-in guages or speakers. To add these accessories, the factory pillars must be removed. Removing the pillars from a Silverado only requires two tools and can be done in a few minutes.

Step 1

Open the passenger door of the Silverado. The grab handle has a small plastic circle on each end of it. Use the flat screwdriver to pop these circles out of the handle.

Step 2

Unscrew the Phillips screw on each side of the handle located on the pillar. Pull the screws out and pull the handle off of the pillar.

Step 3

Use your fingers to pull the pillar away from the truck. Start at the top and pull the pillar towards the driver's side of the truck. Once it pops out of the clips, move your hand down lower on the pillar and pull again until the bottom of the pillar pops out.

Step 4

Unplug any wiring from the pillar if the pillar has gauges or a speaker on it.

Step 5

Repeat these steps for the driver's side, with the exception of the grab handle, since mose Silverados don't have handles on the driver's side.
