How to Improve Business Communication of a Company
An economy that is dominated by computers, telephones, faxes and international trade is intolerant of businesses that are not at the top of their game when it comes to communications. Firms with less than top-notch communications practices will fall behind in the competition because they are missing out on important and timely information, and because they are not getting their message out to the right people at the right time. Techniques to constantly improve corporate communications should be a central part of any vibrant company's business plan.
Instructions
-
Emphasize Employee Training
-
1
Train your employees to make the best use of the infrastructure that they have. Emphasize the importance of open channels of communication between employees, and with clients and contacts outside of the company. Training can take the form of informal lessons during the workday, or more extensive events such as weekend-long seminars that employ professional consultants.
-
2
Teach your employees to be on the lookout for "siloing" within your organization, a process where people within one department become disengaged from people in other departments, and begin to act without knowledge of what other people in the company are doing. Developing a corporate culture that is sensitive to dynamics such as these is the first step in eliminating them. Employees who avoid developing a myopic focus on their own activities, at the expense of what is going on around them, will be in a better position to take advantage of opportunities for good communication.

3
Introduce a mentoring program for new employees in which they spend their first few weeks working together with a more experienced employee. This will help to pass on the culture of open communication that you have created by instilling new employees with an awareness of how things are done at your company.
Maintain Cutting-Edge Infrastructure
-
4
Provide your employees with the technology that they need to maintain superior communication. With the inexpensive availability of computers and electronic communications devices of all kinds, this isn't difficult to do.
-
5
Develop a comprehensive local computer network in which employees can easily contact each other during the workday. Being able to communicate by voice, text and email provides employees with multiple means by which they can communicate easily with their coworkers. Focus more on methodologies and compatible software than on expensive and top-of-the-line hardware. Laptops have advanced so far in the last few years that, when it comes to communications, inexpensive machines can do pretty much anything that the more costly ones can do.
-
6
Employ an experienced and skilled IT specialist, if your company is large enough to support one. Complex computer communications systems can and do develop glitches, and having an on-site troubleshooter for these problems can be a lifesaver for busy companies with deadlines to meet.
