The CRCT doesn't have to be intimidating.

The Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT), is a general-knowledge test for third-grade, fifth-grade, and eighth-grade students in the state of Georgia. Passing the test with a 66% minimum means promotion; failing a test leads to tutoring, summer school and a retest. Failing a retest leads to further student evaluation and academic assistance. The test evaluates the students' knowledge for entrance into the next grade level. The main sections of the test are reading and mathematics. Reading measures a student's ability to perceive and recall what has been read, vocabulary, and reading for critical analysis. The math section of the test includes number sense, geometry, knowledge of patterns and relationships in algebra, statistics and problem-solving skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Inquire at your school about the competency tests. Ask exactly what will be on the test and ask if there is a website sponsored by the school for further competency test questions or assistance in studying.

    • 2

Take ample notes in the classroom, and review these notes. Classrooms will review material before the test to improve the number of students entering high school.

    • 3

Ask your school guidance counselor for practice tests. Take these tests to determine weak areas.
