DIY DSP From an RCA 5.1 Receiver

DIY DSP From an RCA 5.1 Receiver thumbnail
It is possible to connect outside equipment to your surround sound system via digital cable.

RCA 5.1 surround sound systems use a combination of five different speakers in order to create the audio surround sound (this does not include the connected subwoofer). If you want to connect an outside device to the receiver via DSP (digital signal processing), you are able to do so with a digital optical cable. This transforms the information into a series of number signals, which the receiver then deciphers and organizes back into digital sound.

Things You'll Need

  • Digital optical audio cable

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the digital optical audio cable into the "Digital Out" port on the device you want to send the audio signal from.

    • 2

Connect the opposite end of the cable into one of the "Digital In" ports on the RCA 5.1 surround sound receiver. Take note of the specific number listed next to the port, as this is the input you must select in order to play the audio.

    • 3

Power on the connected equipment and the RCA 5.1 surround sound receiver. Select the digital optical audio input you have the cable plugged into, and the audio begins to play back through the five different speakers.
