How to Add a Magnet to Fly Slot Cars

Fly slot cars should be equipped with magnets if they don't already come with a magnet built-in at the time that you purchase the car. Magnets help the car stay on the track during turns and they also help stabilize the car onto the track. If you are adding your own magnet, then you need to add one that is not so big or powerful that it will slow the car down, as a magnet will have what is called "ground effect," which simply means that the car will be pushed down as the magnet and the track attract each other.

Things You'll Need

• Flat screwdriver
• All-purpose glue
• Magnet

Instructions

1. Pry the car body off of the chassis using a flat screwdriver. If there are screws attaching the Fly car's body to the chassis, then unscrew them before prying off the body.

2. Apply some all-purpose glue to the magnet and attach the magnet to the center of the chassis. Note that there are different types of magnets to choose from, including small, circular magnets and long, flat magnets. Choose a magnet that will fit well on the car chassis without hitting the engine.

3. Pry the car body back onto the Fly slot car chassis and, if there were any screws attaching the chassis to the body, tighten the screws to hold the body in place.
