How to Take the Series 7 Exam in New York City

If you would like to register to take the Series 7 examination in New York City, there are a number of things you must do to complete the process. The Series 7 exam, when passed, gives an individual the ability to buy and sell all types of corporate securities excluding commodities and futures. Passing this exam is required if you wish to buy and sell securities in the state.

Instructions

1. Get sponsored by a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) approved financial firm to take the exam. To do so, you must be hired by an FINRA approved company and receive approval from a director within the corporation.

2. Register for the examination by creating an account on the FINRA website and by entering in the necessary information provided by your firm. You will also be asked to create an account during this process, so enter all of the necessary information into the corresponding fields.

3. Report to the testing center at the specified time and date that you are given to take the examination. Be sure to thoroughly study and prepare all of the necessary information before taking the exam. Guidelines for the information covered on the exam can be found on the FINRA website.
