Instructions

    • 1

Search for an online kitchen planning tool. The retailer from whom you are buying the cabinets may have an online tool or may be able to suggest a tool that will aid your kitchen plans. Make sure the design tool has cabinets with the same dimensions of your modular kitchen components.

    • 2

Download and install the tool. Some retailers will have software that needs to be installed on your computer before you can continue with your plans. Follow the directions on the website to install the software.

    • 3

Choose a basic shape and layout for your kitchen.

    • 4

Measure the walls of your kitchen carefully with a tape measure. Modify the dimensions of each wall in the planning tool until the drawing matches the exact measurements of your space.

    • 5

Add the window and door openings to the drawing. Measure from one corner of the room to where the window starts. Measure the width and height of the window. Add these dimensions to the drawing so that the window is positioned properly on the drawing. Repeat for all windows and doors.

    • 6

Select and add cabinets to your kitchen. Modify and adjust as necessary until you are pleased with the layout.

    • 7

Select and add appliances to your kitchen.

    • 8

Choose finish colors and styles for your cabinets, appliances and flooring. Change the color options as many times as necessary to finish your kitchen design.

    • 9

Print a copy of your kitchen design. Take this drawing with you to meet with your cabinet retailer to finalize your order.

Tips & Warnings

  • While it is nice to use a drawing tool specific to your retailer, a generic tool will help you get a basic idea of the color scheme and layout of your kitchen and will help you communicate your ideas to a number of retailers while you are obtaining bids.
