Use a rice cooker to automate the cooking.

The Black & Decker RC850 rice cooker is a 24-cup rice cooker, suitable for preparing rice for a large group. You can prepare the uncooked rice in the cooker and let it set until you are ready to turn it on and cook the rice. After the rice finishes cooking, the cooker will switch to warming mode to hold the warm rice until you are ready to serve. Yet, even if you are ready to serve immediately, the rice will have a better texture if you allow it to set in the cooker for about 15 minutes prior to serving. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Press the button on the lid of the rice cooker to open the cooker.

    • 2

Remove the nonstick rice pot from the inside of the cooker.

    • 3

Measure the amount of rice you are cooking into the rice pot. Hold the pot under the kitchen faucet and rinse the rice with a stream of cold water, gently moving the rice around in the pan with your hand to release some of the starch. Drain off the water from the pan.

    • 4

Add water to the rice. The water-to-rice ratio will depend on the type of rice you're cooking. For short grain white rice, use slightly more water than rice, while brown rice will require about twice the amount of water than rice. Refer to the package of rice for water-to-rice ratios.

    • 5

Place the rice into the cooker and close the lid, so it locks into place.

    • 6

Plug the appliance into an electrical outlet and push the button on the front of the rice cooker so it turns on. The light will indicate when it is finished cooking and the unit will switch to warming mode.

Tips & Warnings

  • The cup that comes with the cooker is a 6-ounce cup, not an 8-ounce cup.

  • Wash the brand new removable rice pot with soap and water before using.

  • Don't use a metal spoon to remove the rice, as it will scratch the surface of the rice pan. Use a wooden or plastic rice paddle.

  • Don't place the cooker under your kitchen cabinets when on, as the steam from the cooker can damage your cabinet's surface.
