Setting short-term goals is a good way to achieve your dreams.

In order to accomplish the things that you want to achieve in your life, it is important to set goals. There are both short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goals are usually defined as things you would like to accomplish within a year. These are goals that can be things you want to do to improve yourself in the short-term, or can be steps in the ladder of your long-term goals.

      Brainstorm and write down the things that you want to improve in your life.

      Narrow your goals down to things that can be accomplished in three months to a year.

      Make the goals precise and specific. Instead of "Read more books," make it, "Read three books in the next three months."

      Make the goal realistic. If you haven't read a book in a year, and your goal is to read four in the next two weeks, it's unlikely to happen. Don't set yourself up for failure; it can be very deflating.

      Make the goals performance-based, not outcome-based. If you're a salesman, for example, make your goal to talk to three more potential clients per day rather than selling a certain number of items or making a certain amount of money. Don't make your goals dependent upon things outside the realm of your control.

      Mark on your calendar the deadline for completing your goals.

      Write the goals down and put them in a place where you will see them every day. Goals are more implanted in your head and it's harder to ignore them when you've written them down and have to see them every day.
