With a rolled hem presser foot you can make precise hems in a short amount of time.

A rolled hem presser foot allows you to make a small professional hem. This type of hem is used on things that are small like handkerchiefs, napkins or anytime where a folded hem would be to big and bulky. A rolled hem foot allows you to produce neatly made hems faster then you can by hand. Fabrics that work best for a rolled hem are silk or a light weight cotton.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach your rolled hem presser foot to the sewing machine. There will be a screw that needs to be loosened so that you can remove your current presser foot and put on the rolled hem presser foot. Make sure to tighten the screw back up. Check with your sewing machines manual so that when you change the attachment it is done correctly.

    • 2

Fold over 1/8 inch of fabric and press it with an iron. Fold over again and press. You will have a total of 1/4 inch of fabric folded and pressed.

    • 3

Take your folded fabric and line it up with your presser foot. Make a few stitches to secure the hem in place. Remove the material and realign the sewn section under the presser foot and begin to sew again. Hold the tail of the thread at the end of your fabric with your left hand and guide the material with your right hand. After you have sewn a few inches of the hem you can let go of the tail of thread.
