How to Send a Letter in a Flat-Rate Priority Mail APO Box

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) offers a flat-rate service you can use to send letters to servicemen and servicewomen abroad at Army Post Office (APO) boxes. An APO address is a foreign address used by service persons abroad to receive mail. Priority Mail flat-rate packaging allows you to send packages to these service persons at the same flat rate used to send domestic packages.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your local Post Office and get a free Priority Mail flat-rate box for your letter.

    • 2

Place the letter in the box and seal the box.

    • 3

Address the package to the APO box. You should write the address in the "Address To" box located on the lower-right corner of the Priority Mail box. Put the service member's full name on the first line of the address. The second line of the address should include the unit number and the APO box number. Finally, include the full nine-digit ZIP code on the third line of the address.

    • 4

Write your return address in the space provided in the upper-left corner of the box.

    • 5

Pay the required flat-rate postage and give the package to the postal clerk for mailing.
