How to Share a TV Tuner Card

How to Share a TV Tuner Card thumbnail
You can watch the same programming on two different TVs by sharing a tuner card.

Television systems have a single tuner that allows the TV to view programming from just about any input source, including cable and satellite receivers. If you only have one satellite/cable receiver and want to view the content on two different televisions, you can share the current TV tuner card on the television with a second TV, all while only using a single set of audio/video cables.

Things You'll Need

  • Component video cables
  • RCA audio cables
  • RCA audio/video cables

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the cable/satellite receiver to the first television. Typically, this involves inserting a set of component video cables into the "Component Video" out ports on the receiver, then connecting the opposite ends of the cables into the "Component In" ports on the TV. Attach a set of RCA audio cables into the "Audio Out" ports on the receiver, then attach these into the "Audio In" ports on the TV.

    • 2

Insert the RCA audio/video cables into the "Video Out" ports on the connected television. Most TVs only have a single video output.

    • 3

Plug the opposite ends of the cables into the "Video In" ports on the second television.

    • 4

Power on the first TV. Choose the "Input" option and select "Component Video." This loads the television content onto the first TV. To view the television tuner's content on the second TV, press the "Video" option on the second TV to view the satellite/cable receiver information.
