How to Wire the Mono for a Kicker Impulse IX2302

How to Wire the Mono for a Kicker Impulse IX2302 thumbnail
Many amplifiers have a crossover feature to help control the output sound frequency.

The IX2302 is a 230 watt by 2-channel car stereo amplifier made by American company Kicker. The amplifier is used to power speakers in the car. Typically, aftermarket amps like this one are used for powering subwoofers (speakers that produce bass.) Amplifiers are necessary to power most aftermarket speakers as the stereo's head unit does not supply enough power. The amp can be wired a number of ways including bridged 4-Ohm 720 watts by 1; per channel 2-Ohm 360 watts by 2; or per channel 4-Ohm 230 watts by 2.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what specifications will be needed to wire the IX2302. The amplifier can either be used as a mono amp or 2-channel amp. A mono amp will only power one speaker, while a 2-channel amp can power two speakers.

    • 2

Wire a mono channel amp. The IX2302 will have four speaker output terminals; they are 1st channel positive, 1st channel negative, 2nd channel positive, 2nd channel negative. Connect the positive (red) power speaker wire to the 1st channel positive terminal on the amp; connect the other end of that wire to the positive terminal on the speaker. Connect the negative (black) power speaker wire to the 2nd channel negative terminal on the amp and connect the other end of that wire to the negative terminal on the speaker.

Wire the IX2302 for 2-channel, two-speaker operation. Connect the 1st channel positive to the 1st speaker positive terminal using speaker wire. Connect 1st channel negative to 1st speaker negative using speaker wire. Repeat this process for the second channel and second speaker.
