How to Install an Expedition Side View Mirror

How to Install an Expedition Side View Mirror thumbnail
A side view mirror is essential for safe driving.

The Ford Expedition has side view mirrors installed on both doors for extra safety. Each of these mirrors is bolted onto the door from the inside. To install a new mirror on your Ford Expedition, you will need to get completely inside the door by removing its inner trim panel. Even though the mirror is installed above this panel, the panel's retaining clips are in the way. This process might vary slightly depending on the exact year of the vehicle.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the Expedition's negative battery cable and then pry out the window switches on the inner door panel with a trim stick or screwdriver. If the Expedition has a manual window handle, detach it from its clip with a hooked tool.

    • 2

Pull out the triangular trim cover above the door panel and detach the clip behind it with a small screwdriver. Remove the screws behind the armrest switch control plate and lamp housing.

    • 3

Unscrew and remove the inner door handle; its retaining nut is behind the small circular piece near the handle, which you need to pry out with a small, flat tool.

    • 4

Remove all remaining screws for the inner trim panel with your screwdriver, and pry off all remaining clips, then detach the door panel and disconnect its electrical connectors. Peel back the plastic water shield behind the panel.

    • 5

Peel back the insulator pad at the top triangular corner above the door and near the window.

    • 6

Insert the mirror into the door from the outside, making sure the mirror's three studs fit through the holes in the door. Apply and tighten the three nuts with your wrench.

    • 7

Press the insulator pad back in place so it covers the mirror's nuts and studs.

    • 8

Reconnect the plastic water shield and the door's inner trim panel using all its clips and screws. Reconnect the trim plate over the mirror's insulator and the window controls.

    • 9

      Reconnect the battery cable.

Tips & Warnings

  • If there is already a mirror installed in the truck, like a broken or damaged one, remove that mirror's nuts with the wrench and disconnect it before installing the new mirror.
