Keep your resume next to you as a reference during the technical phone interview.

While phone interviews are generally less stressful than attending a formal interview in person, a technical phone interview still requires careful advance preparation. The interviewer will not only be focusing on your answers, but also on the tone of your voice. To help keep the tone of your voice confident, relaxed and cool, take the time to prepare.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a quiet place with no distractions. Make sure you will not be disturbed in this area during the interview.

    • 2

Print your resume and place it where you will be sitting for the phone interview. Depending on the type of position you are applying for, you may also want to set aside scrap paper, a pencil and a calculator.

    • 3

Use a highlighter or underline facts in your resume that you want to make sure to point out during the interview.

    • 4

Search the job interview for the requirements of this position. If you have little or no experience in any specific area, then research and learn as much as possible before the interview. Prepare an explanation for the employer on why you are still a good candidate without adequately meeting this prerequisite.

    • 5

Research the employer to understand better what it is looking for. A useful resource is the company's website. Search for technologies the company uses, office policies and vision for the future.
