How to Recycle Plastic Bags With Patterns

How to Recycle Plastic Bags With Patterns thumbnail
The environment benefits from every plastic bag that is recycled.

Plastic bags are not typically biodegradable and as such, when placed in landfills, do not break down. Because it is difficult to dispose of plastic, most recycling companies convert used plastic bags into usable objects such as plastic lumber or containers. If you have patterned plastic bags and would like to avoid throwing them out, you also have the option of recycling or reusing them in a variety of ways. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bags in a recycling bin to be picked up by your local recycling agency. Contact your local recycling agency to learn its pick-up locations and times.

    • 2

Take the bags to your local grocery store to be recycled. Most grocery stores have bins close to the front entrance or near the checkout area specifically placed for recycling plastic bags.

    • 3

Use in arts and crafts project. You can get creative and use your patterned plastic bag to make a decorative handbag or even a pair of sandals. See Resources (below) for how to do these and other projects with plastic bags.
