A band saw is a power saw that cuts by rotating a continuous band of metal with teeth along one side. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the saw to keep it working properly. Remember, it is vital to always disconnect your saw from its power source when you make any adjustments. If you fail to do so, you could cause yourself serious injury or break your band saw.

Instructions

  1. Adjust the Blade Speed

    • 1

Open the pulley cover. While grasping the belt cover with one hand, use your hand to other to unscrew the cover lock knob. Gently lower the guard to an open position.

    • 2

Loosen the lock handle while supporting the motor with your other hand. Once the lock is loose, lower it gently.

    • 3

Move the belt to the proper groove to set its speed.

    • 4

Put tension on the v-belt by gently pressing down on the motor and tightening the lock handle on the tilt plate. You will know you have the right tension when you press down on the belt with a finger and that it moves roughly a half of an inch.

    • 5

Close the pulley cover and retighten the knob.

    Adjust the Blade Tracking

    • 6

Raise the saw arm to its highest position.

    • 7

      Close the pressure control valve.

    • 8

Loosen the three locking bolts on the tracking adjustment plate. They are located on the back side of the driven blade wheel.

    • 9

The tracking is set by tightening or loosening the nuts on the three bolts that you just loosened. You will know the blade is properly adjusted when it barely touches the wheel flange.

    • 10

Retighten the three locking bolts once you have properly adjusted the blade.
