How to Obtain a Passport in Memphis, Tennessee
A passport is a government-issued booklet that proves its owner's identity and citizenship and allows the owner to travel to many countries all over the world. Getting a passport takes a relatively small amount of time and there are passport offices all over the United States. In Memphis, Tennessee, there are nearly a dozen places where you can apply a passport.

Fill out the DS-11 application form (by hand or online) and sign it. Take the completed form to an approved U.S. passport facility in Memphis.

Submit proof of citizenship (previously issued passport, certified birth certificate, consular report of birth abroad, certificate of birth, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship).

Submit government-issued photo identification (previously issued passport, driver's license, naturalization certificate, current U.S. government ID or current U.S. military ID) and a photocopy of same that shows the identification's front and back. Copies must be on paper sized 8 1/2" x 11". Use only one side of the paper.

Pay the application fee. As of December 2010, first-time passport applicants are required to pay $135.

Submit two 2" x 2" identical passport photos. Do not attach the photos to the application form until you are instructed to do so.

Tips & Warnings
Submitted passport photos should show current appearance (less than six months old), clearly show the face and be printed on high-quality paper. Do not wear a hat or any type of glasses in the pictures.
If you cannot submit primary identification, a combination of secondary identifications, such as a Social Security card and a credit card, is acceptable. A complete list of acceptable secondary identifications is available on the U.S. government travel website. An identifying witness is also acceptable provided the witness is a U.S. resident, has known you at least two years, has a valid ID and is present at the time of your application.
Submitting false information on a government application is a felony offense.
