How to Find Buddy Icons & Wallpapers for AIM
AIM is a popular instant messaging service provided by AOL. You can download AIM without having to have AOL; you can also download it for your phone and find your friends through social networking sites. AIM allows you to customize your buddy list window, chat window and icon with different pictures and themes. You can find different icons and wallpapers through AIM or through websites specializing in AIM products. In addition to wallpapers and icons, AIM gives you the ability to post away messages and to customize your icon.

1
Go to the AIM homepage on your Web browser. Scroll to the bottom and click on the link for "Expressions" under the "More for AIM" column. This will open a new window with AIM provided icons, wallpapers, custom emoticons, and sounds. On the left are sub categories like animals, holidays, sports and toys. There are also pop culture icons like Harry Potter. Scroll through the icons until you find one you like. Hover your mouse over the icon until the "Apply" link pops up underneath it. Click "Apply." When you apply a new icon or wallpaper you must have AIM open.

Pick a wallpaper through AIM Expressions by choosing the "Wallpaper" link next to the "Icons" tab. Again scroll through the wallpapers until you find one you like and click "Preview." This will show you what your chat window and buddy list will look like with that wallpaper. Then click "Apply."

Use an icon specialty site like Iconator, IconHell or Cool Buddy if you wish for an icon or wallpaper that AIM does not provide. These sites typically have wider categories like college teams, movie stars, or food. They also let users create their own icons to submit. Scroll through the categories on the first left bar and choose one that interests you. These are all icons; four bars down are the wallpaper categories. You can find ones that match or are completely different. When you choose one click the thumbnail to add it as your icon or wallpaper.
