How to Run a Draft Beer Line
You can run a draft beer line at home to create your very own at-home bar-style beer. The key ingredient is to use materials that will insulate beer and keep it at the correct temperature. As long as your refrigerator or fridge system is set between 36 to 38 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the optimal drinking temperature for beer, you will easily be able to install and run a draft beer line. 1
Use a 2-inch PVC pipe and line it up between the refrigerator and the base of a draft beer tower. Use a PVC elbow with a long sweep rather than one with a sharp 90-degree elbow. A sharp elbow will restrict the air flow of the beer.
-
2
Drill a 2.5-inch hole into the refrigerator and into the base of the beer tower. The hole will be just large enough to accommodate the PVC pipe.
-
-
3
Seal the joints with silicone to prevent cold air from leaking out of the pipe.
-
4
Insert the PVC pipe into the hole drilled in the refrigerator. Insert the other end into the beer tower.
-
5
Sit the pipe on a chair or brace to support it until the silicone is fully dried.
-
6
Insulate the pipe with 2.5-inch I.D. foam insulation. The insulation will prevent condensation in warm or humid climates.
-
7
Mount the beer tower on a counter top and make sure the length of the pipe accommodates where the tower is mounted.
