Homemade B-Day Cards thumbnail
Homemade birthday cards are unique gifts.

One way to create an impression and memorable gift is to give a homemade birthday card to your friend or loved one. A homemade card demonstrates that you care enough for this person to take time to make something special. The recipient will be thrilled by your efforts. The best birthday cards are directly inspired by the birthday boy or girl. One type of homemade card is the montage card, which presents visual images of the birthday girl and her traits, interests and passions.

Instructions

  1. Making a Montage Birthday Card

    • 1

Think of the person who will be receiving the birthday card and write down the top 20 things that come to mind. This is a brainstorming session. The things should relate to his favorite color, sport, season, job, hobby, food, book or film. The more you can write about him, the better.

    • 2

Cut out any photographs you find in the stack of magazines that represent the list above. For instance, if the birthday boy is fond of windsurfing, find an outdoor sporting magazine and cut out a photo of a man windsurfing. Cut out approximately 20 different photos of various shapes and sizes.

    • 3

Fold a piece of colored card stock in half. Glue the magazine photos to the outside and inside of the card. Be sure to leave space on the right side of the interior of the card for your message. Use your scissors to cut the photos to the right shape of the card.

    • 4

Use the colored markers to write a birthday greeting on the right side of the interior of the card.

    • 5

Add flare to the card by gluing or taping one or two of the following items: feathers, beads or dried flowers. You may also add color by painting various designs on the card. You may tie the card closed with a large ribbon. This is a nice way to present the card as a special gift.
