How to Configure CCleaner
CCleaner, also known as "Crap Cleaner" is utility software that is used to clean unwanted files and invalid Windows Registry entries from a computer. CCleaner is often used to get rid of error messages that arise out of the system registry. Once you install CCleaner, it is important that you configure it by securely deleting all temporary files. Note that you may need administrative rights to perform this task.

Click the Start menu and select "All Programs."

Scroll up and locate "CCleaner." Click to launch the program. The icon looks like a red-colored letter "C."

Click "Options" at the bottom of the left pane.

Click "Settings."

Click the "Language" drop-down menu to choose the preferred language. The default selection is "English."

Check to remove the check next to "Run CCleaner when the computer starts." This will ensure that CCleaner does not launch automatically during startup, which can slow down the computer's performance.

Check "Automatically check for updates to CCleaner" if it is not checked already. This will keep this utility up to date; providing you the very latest in registry cleaning.

Check "Secure file deletion (Slower)" check box to enable a drop-down list.

Click to expand the drop-down list and choose the option "DOD 5220.22 M item (3 passes)."

Close "CCleaner" when done.
