How to Use the Texas Flag in Advertisement

How to Use the Texas Flag in Advertisement thumbnail
The Texas state flag, called The Lone Star flag, is the only state flag that once flew for its own country.

The state of Texas has a long list of rules for displaying their state flag. One of these rules states, "The Texas Flag should not be used in any form of advertising, and under no circumstances may advertisements of any kind be attached to the flagpole or staff." In practice, however, the Texas flag is frequently used in ads. The secret is to give the flag the respect it warrants as symbol of the state. That means that when showing the state flag in ads, be sure to follow the rules for displaying it.

Instructions

  1. On a Flagpole

    • 1

Show the Texas flag displayed at the very top of the pole, unless it is being flown at half-mast in mourning. The white stripe should be on top with the blue stripe on the left, next to the flagpole.

    • 2

Show other state and country flags below the Texas flag, if flags are flown on the same pole. If the U.S. flag is on the same pole, it should be above the Texas flag.

    • 3

Show the flag being flown only during daylight hours, between sunrise and sunset, unless it is illuminated by a spotlight to depict patriotism.

    • 4

Show the Texas flag flying freely, unfurled, which signifies liberty. Don't show it crumpled, folded over or wrapped around the pole.

    With Other Flags

    • 5

Show the U.S. flag to the left of the Texas flag from the view of an observer. The two flags should be approximately the same size with flagpoles of the same height.

    • 6

Show the Texas flag to the left -- from the perspective of an observer -- of any flags of other states, countries or organizations.

    • 7

Show the Texas flag at the center, and higher, in a group of other flags from municipalities or organizations.

    Other Rules

    • 8

Show the Texas flag on the marching left of the U.S. flag in a procession. Coming toward the observer, the Texas flag is seen to the right of the U.S. flag.

    • 9

Show the Texas flag on the marching right of flags of other states, municipalities or organizations. As the procession approaches the observer, the Texas flag is seen to the left of the other flags.

    • 10

Show the Texas flag flat on a wall, with the white stripe above the red stripe, and the blue stripe on the observer's left, when the flag is displayed horizontally.

    • 11

Show the Texas flag with the blue stripe on top and the white stripe to the left of the red stripe -- from the perspective of the observer -- when displaying the flag vertically.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use bunting instead of the flag for decorative purposes. The bunting should be the same colors as the flag, with the blue stripe on top, the white stripe in the middle and the red stripe on the bottom.

  • Avoid carrying or displaying the Texas flag in a manner that it could touch the ground, dip into water or otherwise become dirty or torn.
