Your body language counts for 55 percent of how people perceive your attitude.

A good attitude is more than just a positive disposition, it's a reflection of honorable character. Pam Wyess, CEO of Workplace Results, LLC, and human resource trainer, states that attitude is perceived by a person's words, tone of voice and body language. Having a good attitude in your actions is achieved by embracing a certain mind-set and accepting the responsibility of choice.

Be grateful. Believing that you'll have a more positive demeanor when more positive things start happening to you is a thought process that encourages you to be dissatisfied with today. People who have a bad attitude generally find themselves waiting for that perfect day all their lives.

Start small, mentally list the things that you are grateful for: your car, house, family and friends. Then extend that gratitude to how you feel or how you know you can feel: hopeful, happy, encouraged and healthy. Being grateful will not only brighten your mood, but it also can thwart depression.

Repeat this step at least three times a day.

Enjoy the process of living. Multi-millionaire Reverend Run Simmons encourages people to enjoy the process of getting to where they want to be in life. He explains that the journey to success is just as enjoyable as reaching life goals, stressing that it's the journey that really gives value to the achievement. Accept that there are difficulties and obstacles in life, but look forward to overcoming them.

Choose your daily outlook. Self-affirmations are powerful. Every time you wake up, you tell yourself something, and what you say is either positive or negative. Choose to tell yourself something positive about what you are going to do that day. An example of a positive self-affirmation is, "I am going to have a good day at work today and get all of my assigned work done."

Tips & Warnings

  • Make an effort to smile several times a day. Smiling is a great way to improve your general mood and helps others to respond to you in a more positive way.

  • Become friends with positive people. Socialize with people who have a good attitude, this will help you pay more attention to your own mood and give you the chance to observe their good behaviors.

  • Avoid negative music before performing daily duties. Songs that are violent, sad or of an angry nature easily affect how you will carry yourself throughout the day.

  • Although sharing your feelings is generally a healthy practice, when you feel bad, talking about it can make you feel worse. Instead, try talking about something positive: a good movie, a funny joke or a compliment received. This will lighten your mood and re-channel your thoughts.
