How to Sort & Classify Smart Board Activities

How to Sort & Classify Smart Board Activities thumbnail
Smart Board activities are available through the Smart Exchange program.

Smart Boards transform learning by helping teachers bring more teamwork and interactivity into the classroom. The Smart Board is an interactive white board, created by Smart Technologies, that allows a computer screen to be projected onto a board in the front of the classroom. Teachers can incorporate Smart Boards into their teaching programs to add new depth to learning and increase student participation. Many kinds of lessons are available for use on Smart Boards, so you must know how to sort and classify these activities to organize lessons for your classroom.

Instructions

    • 1

Sort through all of the Smart Board activities that you have and identify the ones that relate to primary school subjects, such as Math, Science, English, Spelling and Global Studies. Use your mouse to right-click on any open space on your desktop to reveal a menu. Click "New Folder" and then type in "Primary" as the folder's name.

    • 2

Look through the remaining Smart Board activities and identify the ones that relate to secondary subjects, such as Art, Health, Foreign Languages and Computers. Use your mouse to right-click on any open area on your desktop to display a menu. Click "New Folder" and then type in "Secondary" as the folder's name.

    • 3

Gather all Smart Board activities related to primary subjects and transfer them to the "Primary" folder. To use the "drag and drop" method, click on the desired activity and hold down the button while dragging the highlighted activity to the "Primary" folder. Collect all of the Smart Board activities related to secondary subjects and transfer the activities to the "Secondary" folder.

    • 4

Separate Smart Board activities in the Primary and Secondary folders according to grade and then create sub-folders to house the different age groups. To create a sub-folder, choose "New Folder" from the right-click menu while browsing under a main folder, such as the Primary or Secondary folder. For example, file high-school Math activities in the sub-folder "High School" and elementary Math activities in the "Elementary" sub-folder.

    • 5

Classify Smart Board activities according to interactive and passive classification. Create two sub-folders called "Interactive" and "Passive" in each age-group category. File Smart Board activities that are interactive lessons in the "Interactive" folder and activities that are performed alone in the "Passive" folder.

    • 6

Verify that all of your work has been saved in appropriate locations. With the added benefit of folders and sub-folders, you now have an organized Smart Board activity library. When you need an activity for a particular subject or a specific age group, you will easily be able to find the desired activity.
