How to Get a Liquor License for a Bar
If you're looking to open a bar, obtaining a liquor license is very important. A bar without a liquor license is not much of a bar. To receive a liquor license, you must pass certain criteria that varies for each community. Once you get your liquor license, be sure to follow the letter of the law to protect your interests and avoid any violations.

1
Call your state's Alcohol Control Board office. They will inform you of the particular requirements in your area. The requirements vary from one region to another, but your establishment will be required to pass a building inspection, and you will be asked to submit to a background check and fill out paperwork agreeing to uphold the law when serving alcohol in your establishment. The Alcohol Control Board will also let you know if there are restrictions on how many liquor licenses are allowed in your community, and whether or not that number has been reached.

Purchase a liquor license from a bar going out of business if there are limits to the number of licenses allowed in your area. If you're taking over a bar, you'll still need your own license, but you may be able to work out purchasing that establishment's license if they haven't already sold it.

Purchase a liquor license from a liquor license broker. This should be your secondary option because you are likely to pay more if you go through a broker.
