Instructions

    • 1

Determine the soundproofing needs for your vehicle. Blocking or deadening engine noise is the primary goal in soundproofing a vehicle but you may have additional sound problems to deal with as well.

    • 2

Research the various types of soundproofing materials available. Visit an auto parts store and do research online as well. Soundproofing materials for cars and trucks can be divided into three categories -- hood and trunk insulation materials, which may be some type of matting or combination of foam rubber and cloth; noise barriers, made from multiple layers of compressed cotton or a similar material; anti vibrating material, which is glued to panels to stop panel vibrations and to reduce low resonance road noises.

Open the hood of your vehicle. Clean the underside of the hood with an all purpose cleaner to remove dirt and grime. Measure the width and length of the hood and cut your hood lining material into two strips. Apply an adhesive to the hood and to the hood liner. Attach the hood liner to the hood and allow the adhesive to dry for the recommended period of time. The same procedure may be used for the trunk as well.

Mount the noise barrier insulation inside the car interior. The noise barrier material attaches to the firewall underneath the carpet of the car with a contact adhesive. Cascadeaudio.com sells several different versions of flexible foam floor barriers that sit underneath the carpet on the floor of the car and in the trunk as well that blocks low frequency road noises.
