How to Coil a Soaker Hose thumbnail
With proper care, a soaker hose can last for many years.

Soaker hoses are popular tools used by both novice and professional gardeners. Soaker hoses let water trickle into the soil through small holes located throughout the hose, preventing water waste. Since most people have no use for a soaker hose during the winter months, it is important to properly store the hose so it stays in good condition. You can get years of use from your soaker hose if you carefully clean, coil and store it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the hose by soaking it a tub full of warm, soapy water if you plan on storing it for more than a few weeks.

    • 2

Place the hose on a flat surface and allow it to completely dry before coiling it.

    • 3

Place one hand on one end of the soaker hose. It doesn't matter which end you choose. Place your other hand a few inches from the hand holding the end of the hose and slowly begin to wind the part of the hose you are holding around the end of the hose. It should appear circular as you begin to wind it. You can pick up the hose to do this or leave it on the ground. Soaker hoses aren't as heavy as traditional garden hoses, but some people may find it easier to let it remain on the ground as they coil it.

Repeat the winding motion several times until you reach the end of the hose. You should have a rather large circular shape by the time you have finished.

    • 5

Place the hose in a storage container or tie a piece of twine or rope around the hose to keep it from unwinding.
