Instructions

    • 1

Measure the space where you wish to hang your picture and use a pencil to mark the spot on the wall that corresponds to the height of your picture from the ceiling, minus the difference between the hanging wire and top edge of the frame.

    • 2

      Don safety goggles and mask.

    • 3

Use a heavy-duty drill -- preferably a hammer drill -- to make a hole in the wall at the marked spot. Make the hole the same diameter as the molly.

    • 4

Tap the molly in place in the hole with a hammer. Use plastic mollies for lightweight items and lead mollies for heavier items.

    • 5

Put in and tighten the screw or bolt -- appropriately-sized to fit snugly into the molly insert -- until it sticks out just far enough to slide the picture hanging wire over the head.

    • 6

Hang your picture from the screw or bolt.

    • 7

Use a spirit level to straighten the picture by placing it across the top of the frame and adjusting the picture from the hanging wire until the bubble rests in the center of the level.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tap an awl or even a small nail against the wall to make a tiny starter hole in the concrete to keep your drill bit from wobbling when you begin drilling the hole.

  • Any drill will work eventually, but drilling in concrete is slow work for a lightweight tool. A powerful drill, such as a hammer drill, speeds up the process considerably.

  • Always wear safety goggles and a mask when drilling concrete, to keep dust and chips out of eyes and lungs.
