Small lightbulbs illuminate the dashboard of the Ford Taurus, and even just one dim or blown bulb makes viewing the instrument panels difficult at night. Replacing the instrument panel lightbulbs does require the removal of dashboard components, but does not require the assistance of a mechanic. Purchase new Ford Taurus dashboard bulbs from an auto parts store, and install them yourself.

Step 1

Disconnect the negative ("-") battery cable from the terminal using a wrench.

Step 2

Remove the screws located on the upper portion of the instrument panel cowl's underside, and then gently pull the cowl trim away from the instrument panel. Place all screws to the side.

Step 3

Remove the screws holding the instrument panel in place and set them to the side. Pull the instrument panel forward and carefully disconnect the electrical connections from the back of the panel.

Step 4

Locate the bulb you wish to replace. Unlock the bulb by turning it counterclockwise, and then pull the bulb to remove it from the back of the panel.

Step 5

Insert the new bulb, and then turn it clockwise to lock it into the back of the panel.

Step 6

Reverse the steps to reassemble to the instrument panel and dashboard components.
