A photo of Santa can be included in the letter.

Every holiday season, children write a Christmas letter to Santa in hopes of receiving a special gift that they have requested. Parents often receive this list and store it away or mail it to prevent the child from knowing who Santa really is. Parents can respond to these letters from Santa using a word-processing program. A Christmas stationary template can be made in the program to make it seem as though the letter was sent from the North Pole. Does this Spark an idea?

Open a new document in a word-processing program. Select "File," then "New Document" from the program menu. A new blank document will appear in the window.

Type a salutation at the beginning of the letter along with the child's name. Enter a paragraph of text in the letter to keep it simple and to the point. Commend the child for any good things that Santa has seen them do during the year, since he has been watching , and let them know how these good deeds have earned them gifts.

Thank the child in the letter for any treats that she might have left Santa the year before, and remind her that good behavior puts her on Santa's "Good Kid" list. Once the paragraph is completed, end it with a complimentary close, and type "Santa Claus" as the signature.

Add designs to the letter using the shapes from the "Draw" toolbar at the bottom of the documents window. Use star shapes to create a snowflakes, triangles to make a Christmas tree and circles to make a snowman. Clip art also can be chosen to adorn the edges of the response letter.

Place the letter into a colored envelope, such as green or red. Write the child's name as the recipient and place her home address below. Send the letter through the mail, and allow the child to open it once it is received at home.
