Flash chips are usually very thin and relatively small.

Flash chips are types of flash memory devices that are found in a variety of electronics, such as cameras and video game consoles. They are called flash chips because they use flash technology to write, rewrite and delete information on the flash chip. You can put several things on flash chips, such as documents, saved games, pictures and videos. You can identify flash chips by looking for a few specific things.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for a brand name on the flash chip, such as Microsoft, Canon, Nikon or Kodak. It will be located on the top of the flash chip.

    • 2

Locate a metal strip on the back of the flash chip. This is what the computer reads in order to bring up the information that is saved on the disk.

    • 3

Find a size on the top of the flash chip. The size will be in GB (gigabytes) or MB (megabytes). This is how much memory you can store on these devices.

    • 4

Note the shape of the flash chip. It should be square or rectangular shaped; it may look like a corner has been cut off. It should also be around 1/16 of an inch thick.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never submerge or beat the flash chip. It will break or short out.
