Learn the proper way to dismount tires from a tractor.

Tractor tires are large and heavy, making them annoying to dismount when the tractor is due for a tire change. Despite the task being less than appealing, no tractor owner can avoid having to learn how to properly dismount the tires of a tractor. Changing a tractor's tire requires a different method from other vehicles, so researching the proper method can be beneficial.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Drive the tractor to an area that is as level as possible. Uneven surfaces will make it more difficult to dismount the tire. When you find the best location to change the tire, park the tractor. On the side of the tractor that is requiring the tire dismount, block both the wheels to help ensure the tractor does not move.

    • 2

Use the heavy-duty jack to raise the tractor, elevating the side of the tractor with the tire you are going to dismount. Use the tractor's manual if you are unsure about where to position the jack.

    • 3

Deflate the tire by removing the valve core. When the tire is almost completely deflated, use an iron to separate the tire's bead from the lip of the rim.

    • 4

Insert the bead buster into the space you just created between the bead and the lip of the rim. Lock the bead buster to the rim.

    • 5

Use a socket and a wrench to force the bead off of the rim seat. Repeat this step to loosen the bead on the inside of the tire as well.

    • 6

Lubricate the tire bead and the bead seat with a lubricant appropriate for use on tires.

    • 7

Insert tire irons into the bead at the top of the tire's rim. Use the tire irons to pry the bead over the lip of the rim. Continue to work your way around the tire using the tire irons to pry the bead off of the tire until the outside bead is completely off of the rim.

    • 8

Remove the tubing for the tire after the outside bead has been completely removed. To remove the tubing, pull the material away from the tractor in a clockwise direction until all of the tubing has been removed.

    • 9

Use the tire irons to remove the inside bead from the rim. The same method can be used to remove the inside bead as was used earlier to remove the outside bead. Work in a circular direction around the tire until the entire bead has been removed from the tire.

    • 10

Clean the rim of the tractor. This will help prevent any damage to the next tire. Use a wire brush to wipe down the surface area where the tire was in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • A tractor tire can only be removed from a tractor by deflating the tubing and removing the beads from the rim. Tractor tires differ from car tires in that they can not be dismounted, only completely removed and replaced.
