How to Prepare for a Corrections Officer Interview

Being prepared for a corrections officer interview can help you land the position. Because recessions do not affect the need for corrections staff, landing a job as a corrections officer provides a secure income. Whether you are preparing to interview for a government or private corrections position, preparing is done in essentially the same way. Spending some time preparing can also help you stand out to the interviewing board and make you a more sought-after candidate.

Instructions

1. Request any study materials the interviewing board has available. Look on the job posting to determine if any special study materials are available when you drop off your application.

2. Schedule a work-site visit, if available. Some prisons do not allow nonemployees access to their facility.

3. Research the policies of the prison you are applying with online. State corrections positions have the basics of their policies and procedures on their websites and private prisons must follow the same guidelines for the government entity they house inmates for. So if the private prison houses inmates for the state of Georgia, they must follow Georgia's same policies and procedures in regards to care of inmates.

4. Inquire as to the type of interview. Knowing whether you will be interviewed by a single person or by a group of people, otherwise known as a board, will allow you to prepare mentally for the interview.
