How to Create a Wine Cellar
A wine cellar is an ideal space for storing bottles of wine, and can make for a great addition to your home and a conversation piece during dinner parties. You can make your own wine cellar using some old furniture pieces and placing them in a cold spot in your home, like a basement. One of the most important parts of designing a wine cellar is ensuring the wine stays at the proper temperature, usually between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Armoire or cabinet furniture
- Hammer
- Wrench
- Sandpaper
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Wine racks

Remove any shelving from the inside of the cabinets using a hammer and wrench to pull out shelves and bolts.

Smooth out the inside of the cabinet space with sandpaper.

Paint the inside of the cabinet, as these cabinet walls will still show through after installing the wine racks. Also paint the outside if it is in need of a face lift. Let dry.

Install a series of wine racks inside the cabinet.

Place the armoire in a cool spot in your home, like a basement or mud room. Fill the wine racks with your bottles of wine.

Tips & Warnings
Use a wood stain instead of paint on the cabinet for an upscale look.
You can pick up wine racks at most home goods or home design stores. Some are ready to install without tools, and some will require tools like a screwdriver or hammer.
