Apply to the Sarasota County-Get Energy Smart Retrofit Program, if eligible. The program provides rebates for home energy improvements and green improvements to a home, such as solar panels. If approved for the program, a participant could receive up to a maximum of $3,000 for energy improvements and an additional $750 for home energy audits.

Contact a weatherization program such as that run by North East Florida Community Action Agency (NFCAA). Throughout Florida, community action agencies offer weatherization programs. According to the News Blaze website, Solar Energy Initiatives Inc. in 2010 announced plans for installation of 10 solar thermal hot water systems as part of the (NFCAA) Weatherization Assistance Program in Duval County, Florida. Check to see if solar panel subsidies are in the future, as community action agencies have ongoing weatherization programs funded by government grants.
