How to Define a Data Type for Business Objects
Business objects are containers for application data, including customer or sales data. Data can be exchanged between components via business objects. A business object comprises fields that have a name, a type, a default value and cardinality. Business object fields specify what information a business object can contain, and how that information can be accessible.

Obtain WebSphere Integration Developer from the IBM website and install it on your computer. Insert your installation DVD into your DVD drive and mount the DVD drive, using software like MagicISO. Click on Setup.exe on your installation folder and start to install it. Follow the onscreen wizard to finish the installation.

Go to "Start," then "All Programs," find and click on "WebSphere Integration Developer." In the editor view, choose a business object and click on it. Click on the "F" icon to add a field to the business object. The "F" icon is highlighted by blue and right next to the "Business Object."

Click on the added field and edit it in "Properties" view of the editor. Type "Name" and select "Type" for it on "Properties" view. You can change the field type by clicking on the type in the business object and selecting the type you want from the drop-down list.
