How to Fight International Speeding Tickets

Speeding tickets are issued for driving over a posted speed limit in a specific location. When driving in an international location, observing the speed limits is still important because it is possible to get an international speeding ticket. When this occurs, you have the choice of either fighting the ticket or accepting guilt and paying the ticket.

Instructions

    • 1

Pay attention to the scene when pulled over. Note where the officer states the car was going too fast, where the car stopped, the weather conditions and any other information available at the time. Note any passengers that are in the vehicle.

    • 2

Avoid admitting guilt to the officer issuing the ticket. If asked about your driving speed, either do not answer, give an "I don't know" or say, "I was driving the posted speed limit." Admitting guilt to the ticket issuer tells the court that the ticket is given fairly.

    • 3

Plead "not guilty." Avoid paying the fine and follow the directions on the ticket for a not guilty plea. Directions for pleading not guilty will differ for each country and court system.

    • 4

Hire a lawyer if necessary. Lawyers are necessary when the ticket includes both speeding and other charges like drinking and driving or drug use. A lawyer is not always necessary for simple speeding unless there are communication problems at the court.

    • 5

Show up to court on time. In many cases, showing up at the appointed time will result in winning the case because the officer that issued the ticket might not be in court. Plead "not guilty," provide evidence such as witness testimony or observations of the ticket and point out any inconsistencies on the ticket.
