Focus on one particular area of choice within the woodworking business---this would be the one that interests you the most to start with until you are conversant and wholly knowledgeable in that area. You need to be honest with yourself with regard to what brings you joy. Do you enjoy making kids' toys, tables, furniture or something else?

Find a source of supply for the wood you will be using for production. Other items for manufacturing your products such as hammers, saws, drills, chisels, and clamps will also be required. Make adequate preparations to get all these items ordered before proceeding. Find a source where you can get these products at a good price. You don't want to spend too much while starting up a business otherwise you might end up bankrupt. Check with several suppliers and compare rates and prices before making a decision.

Find a location that meets the needs of your business. Find a prime location to attract customers and bring in a good market. If you are just starting out and lack funds to find a location, set up shop in your garage. Do not lease a building or a bigger space until you have taken in a bit of money. Once you know you are doing well and can afford the charges that come with a big building or space, you can lease a building with more space.

Market your products, your services and what you have to offer to the community. Promote your business and put it on top of the rest in the area by placing fliers on community boards in stores in your area or by distributing them to potential buyers and customers. On the fliers, list contact details such as your name, phone number and email address so customers can reach you. Advertise in the local newspaper as well as magazines that focus on woodworking, if it's within your budget.

Give first-time customers a discount and treat them well. Treating customers fairly with good customer service will keep them coming back again and they may recommend you to other potential buyers. However, if they are not entirely happy with the products or service, this will affect your reputation and you will lose good business.
