Instructions

    • 1

Remove marks or dirt from the glassware using warm soapy water; dry completely.

    • 2

Cut the Rub N Etch stencil, measuring it carefully so it will fit in the desired location on the glass.

    • 3

Separate the white frosted backing from the blue, tacky part of the Rub N Etch stencil sheet and put the backing aside.

    • 4

Stick the stencil onto the glass with the blue, tacky side touching the it; secure with masking tape.

    • 5

Transfer the stencil design onto the glass using the provided wooden stick. Stroke the wooden stick across the design smoothly and evenly, going from left to right, then up and down.

    • 6

Remove some of the masking tape once the stencil has been transferred, and peel off the sheet.

    • 7

Apply masking tape around the edges of your transferred stencil so that it overlaps the remaining masking tape, but not the stencil design. This prevents the etching cream from touching areas that are not to be etched.

    • 8

Place the white frosted backing part of the stencil sheet over the transferred design and rub over all areas.

    • 9

Hold the glass up to the light to see if you can find any holes or tears. If you spot any, cover them with tiny strips of masking tape.

    • 10

Apply a thick layer of Amour Etch Glass Etching Cream to the stencil design using a brush, and allow to sit for one minute.

    • 11

Wash off the cream under warm water and remove any remaining tape and pieces of transferred stencil.

    • 12

Clean the glass with glass cleaner, and then dry completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • When transferring the stencil you should be able to see the design being transferred onto the glass, as the color of the sheet will change from dark to light blue.

  • Use care when rubbing the design at its edges to ensure that it does not peel back up when you remove the sheet.

  • If the design has not totally stuck to the glass after transferring the stencil, try placing the top sheet back down and rubbing over all the areas again.

  • If you are working on a wide area of glass and need to prevent the etching cream from contacting large spaces, use adhesive-backed shelving vinyl to cover them.

  • For best results during etching, the room temperature should be approximately 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • To ensure complete safety, wear plastic gloves and protective eyewear when using Armour Etch Glass Etching Cream and apply in a well-ventilated area.
