How to Tell the Year of a Honda Motorcycle

Honda designs, manufactures and distributes a broad range of motorcycles. Street models include Touring, Sport Touring, Crossovers, Cruisers and Choppers. Each motorcycle has a vehicle identification number, which provides manufacturing details about the motorcycle. It is possible to use the vehicle identification number to find out the year of a specific motorcycle.
Step 1
Locate the vehicle identification number. On most models, it is located on either side of the steering column on a metal plate or on the engine case.
Step 2
Call a Honda dealer, provide the VIN and request assistance determining the year of the motorcycle of interest.
Step 3
Go to the DMV website (see Resources). Enter the vehicle identification number in the search box. Press "Search."
Step 4
Go to the Motoverse website (see Resources). Enter the vehicle identification number in the search box. Press "Go."

Tips
- The 10th digit of the VIN is the one used for the year of the motorcycle. If you have a rough idea of the motorcycle's age, you can use this to determine its age. Years 2001 through 2009 are represented by the numbers "1" through "9." The years 2010 and 2011 are represented by "A" and "B." The years 1997 through 2000 are "V" through "Y," and 1994 through 1996 are "R" through "T."
Warnings
- The letters "O," "Q" and "U" are not used in VINs to avoid read errors.
