How to Use a Fiskars Paper Rotary Cutter

Fiskars makes a line of rotary cutters for use with fabrics, paper and other crafting materials. Rotary paper cutters make precise cuts quickly and do not bind up like traditional scissors can. They come in several sizes of blades, depending on the type of paper you want to cut.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a Fiskars cutting mat on a flat surface. Failure to use a cutting mat can result in damage to the table or other counter surfaces.

    • 2

Select the paper you wish to cut. Most Fiskars rotary paper cutters are designed to cut only one or two sheets at a time, depending on the weight of the paper.

    • 3

Place a straight-edge, such as a ruler, on the paper. You can also use the pre-printed lines on your cutting mat as a guide if you don't have a straight-edge.

    • 4

Grasp the handle of the rotary paper cutter and push downward slightly as you move your arm forward along the straight-edge in a steady motion. If you are using the guidelines on the cutting mat, visualize a straight line from one side of the paper to the other and push the cutter forward.

    • 5

Change the cutting blade if it becomes dull by unscrewing the nut on the head of the cutter, carefully replacing the cutting wheel and re-screwing the nut in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rotary cutters are extremely sharp. Always retract the blade before storing.
