Instructions for Operating a Furby

The Furby, a robotic toy that responds to touch, light and even other Furbies, was introduced in 1998 and sold more than 14 million units in its first 15 months. It fell out of favor a few years later but it still pops up from time to time. The Furby, which stands around 6-inches tall and resembles a small animal, is battery operated but contains sensors that make it respond to its owner. Furby's "speak" their own language but can be programmed to "learn" human language and other things.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the Furby over and open its battery compartment. Insert four AA batteries into the battery compartment and close the lid.

    • 2

Push down the mouth switch and the reset button. Flip the Furby back over and it will wake up and tell you its name.

    • 3

Push the mouth switch to feed Furby when it is hungry. Furbies speak "furbish" and the phrase for hungry is "Kah a-tay," although it may use the word "Hungry" as it matures. The Furby "eats" your finger or a plastic food item.

    • 4

Place the Furby in a dark room and cover its eyes for 10 to 15 seconds when you want to put it to sleep.

    • 5

Pet Furby on her back when it does a trick you want to encourage. For example, if it gives you a kiss after you cover its eyes, pet its back twice. You have to wait for it to stop moving and speaking after each pet for them both to register. Initiate it again by covering its eyes, then reward it another pet of the back.

    • 6

Clap four times to make Furby dance. To get another dance after that, you just have to clap again.

    • 7

Cover the Furby's eyes, wait for it to stop talking, then uncover the Furby eyes to launch a game of Hide and Seek. Repeat this action three times, then tickle its tummy. You have a minute to hide your Furby, then three to find it again. If you don't find it in time, it will say "nah nah nah" three times.
