Homemade Confetti Bombs

Balloons make an effective container for confetti.

A confetti bomb adds a festive and entertaining touch to your holiday or party decorations. Ideal for a New Year's or birthday party, explode the confetti bombs to shower your guests with colorful confetti. To save costs on decorating, a homemade confetti bomb can be constructed with a few crafting and decorating items you may already have in your home. Any missing supplies can be easily and inexpensively purchased at a craft or party-supply store.

Things You'll Need

• Balloons
• Construction paper
• Funnel
• Scissors
• Toothpick

Instructions

1. Cut a one-quarter inch stack of multi-colored construction paper into tiny bits of paper. The bits of paper should be one-half to one-quarter the size of a dime. Use a variety of colors, such as pink, red, purple, blue, green, orange and yellow.

2. Divide the confetti so that each balloon will contain at least a handful of confetti.

3. Insert a funnel into the lip of each deflated balloon and drop the confetti down the funnel and into the balloon.

4. Inflate the balloon by taking a deep breath and blowing deeply into the balloon. Pinch the lip of the balloon and pull your mouth away to inhale before blowing again, to avoid inhaling confetti. Keep blowing into the balloon until it is fully inflated.

5. Tie a knot at the opening of the balloon.

6. Burst the balloon confetti bomb by squeezing the balloon, stepping on the balloon or stabbing the outside of the balloon with a toothpick.

Tips & Warnings

• Mount a board on the wall or ceiling with toothpicks or nails sticking out of it for an alternative way to burst the balloon bomb. You can hit the balloon at the board, causing it to burst.
